Chiropractic and Pregnancy

Pregnancy brings significant changes to a woman's body as her baby grows. Changes in posture, the spine, pelvis, and surrounding soft tissues can affect how a woman feels and moves throughout pregnancy. Prenatal chiropractic care focuses on the relationship between the spine and nervous system and may help support comfort, balance, and healthy function during this important time.

Our prenatal approach is gentle and individualized to each woman and stage of pregnancy. Care is designed to support the body's changing biomechanics while considering the relationship between the spine, pelvis, and nervous system. We work with expecting mothers throughout pregnancy to help them feel more comfortable, supported, and confident as their bodies change.

Frequently Asked Questions About Prenatal Chiropractic Care

Is chiropractic care safe during pregnancy?

Yes. Chiropractic care is safe for pregnant women when provided by a chiropractor who is trained in prenatal care. At True Life Chiropractic, we adapt care throughout pregnancy to accommodate a woman's changing body and growing baby. We use gentle, pregnancy-specific techniques and specialized pregnancy pillows that allow expecting mothers to lie comfortably while receiving care. Dr. Jamie has extensive postgraduate training in prenatal chiropractic care and is certified in the Webster Technique. Our goal is to provide comfortable, individualized care that supports moms throughout every stage of pregnancy.

What is the Webster Technique?

The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic technique designed to help create balance and proper function in the mother's pelvis during pregnancy. By addressing the sacrum, pelvic muscles, and supporting ligaments, the goal is to reduce tension and restriction in the pelvic area and create an environment where the baby has room to move into an optimal position for birth. Dr. Jamie is certified in the Webster Technique and has specialized training in caring for women throughout pregnancy. The Webster Technique is not a procedure to manually turn a baby; instead, it focuses on improving the mother's pelvic balance and function.

When should I start prenatal chiropractic care?

Ideally, chiropractic care begins before pregnancy to help prepare the body for the physical changes ahead. However, you can begin prenatal chiropractic care at any stage of pregnancy. The earlier you begin, the more time we have to evaluate your spine and pelvis, support your body's changes, and make appropriate adjustments as your pregnancy progresses. If you're already well into your pregnancy, it's not too late to begin care- we simply just have less time to work with before your baby arrives.

When can I resume chiropractic care after giving birth?

We recommend returning to chiropractic care as soon as you feel comfortable after giving birth. Just as newborns often have their first well-check within the first few days after birth, we encourage moms to schedule their own chiropractic visit around that time when appropriate. Your body goes through significant physical changes during labor and delivery, and postpartum care can help support your body's transition and recovery. If you're not yet comfortable lying on your stomach, we can continue using our specialized pregnancy pillows to make your visit comfortable. Moms who have had a C-section can also receive individualized chiropractic care postpartum when they feel ready. We have cared for moms within days or weeks after delivery, always adapting care to their individual needs and comfort level.

Can I receive chiropractic care throughout my pregnancy?

Yes. Chiropractic care can be provided throughout pregnancy, beginning as soon as you know you're pregnant or even before pregnancy. At True Life Chiropractic, care is personalized to each mother and adapted to her changing body and needs throughout every stage of pregnancy. We recommend continuing chiropractic care into the fourth trimester and beyond, as the body continues to recover and adjust after delivery. Our goal is to support mothers through pregnancy, birth, and the important postpartum period that follows.

How often should I see a chiropractor during pregnancy?

There is no one-size-fits-all schedule for prenatal chiropractic care. At True Life Chiropractic, recommendations are personalized based on your individual needs, your goals for care, current symptoms, and the results of our INSiGHT nervous system scans. As your pregnancy progresses and your body changes, your care recommendations may change as well. Our goal is to provide the right level of care and support for you throughout your pregnancy.
