Can you believe that the New Year is nearly upon us? Though Christmas season is in full swing, it’s not too early to start putting thought in to the improvements you’d like to make in 2018. Whether mental, physical or spiritual, creating New Year’s resolutions is a worthwhile past time that gives us something to strive for as we set our agendas. As Tony Robbins once said, “Setting goals is the first step toward making the invisible into the visible.” As your chiropractor, I think it’s time to insert some goals for your spine into your 2018 health goals. After all, the spine is central part of your nervous system and affects nearly every major bodily function! Here are three new year’s resolutions we’d like for you to make for your spine.
You’ve probably heard how great it is for you to spend time strengthening your core and utilizing a foam roller to encourage a properly aligned spine. However, did you know that simply stretching can achieve wonders for a healthy spine? Stretching releases tension in the body(or stretching optimizes muscle length) and releases mood-boosting endorphins into your system. Note: Exercise is what increases oxygen into the blood. Spending just five minutes a day stretching your hamstrings and quads can significantly reduce lower back pain!
Sugars and simple carbohydrates are terrible for increasing the amount of painful inflammation throughout your body. In excess, sugars and carbs lead to an added risk of diabetes, heart disease, added allergies, and the early onset of degenerative arthritis. In addition to limiting these from your diet, make sure you’re drinking plenty of water on a daily basis to flush out any toxins. Our rule of thumb to determine how much water you should be drinking is to take half of your body weight and convert that into ounces. For example, if you weigh 140 pounds, you should be drinking at least 70 ounces of water every day.
- Get Regular Adjustments
Getting regular chiropractic adjustments is vital to ensuring a healthy spine. Regular adjustments foster a properly functioning nervous system, resulting in a better immune system, all while reducing stress and tension throughout your spine. Additionally, adjustments are a natural, drug-free way to reduce common aches and pains without resorting to expensive and damaging medications and surgeries. Why not use your body’s own immune system to its fullest benefit?
We hope that you have a wonderful holiday season! Please feel free to reach out if there is anything we can do to be helpful in the New Year!
